Case Study
Big Dog Coffee is one of South Wales's leading coffee roasteries and play an important role in rapidly growing the independent Welsh coffee scene. Alongside the roastery they have two shop locations also based in Wales.
They are committed to delivering exceptional specialty coffee to a diverse audience, no jargon or industry speak just accessible and delicious coffee. This combined with their dedication to a transparent supply chain and fostering sustainable, meaningful relationships gives them a unique story and point of view.
The task was to communicate that story and message through two detailed illustrations which would be used for merchandise but also at their roastery and in other areas of the brand in the future.
Concept One - Big Dog’s Story
The first illustration zoomed out from the day to day of the business to capture the big picture of Big Dog Coffee.
The story focuses on their brand pillars. The relationships they have built with their suppliers, the care and quality control throughout the roasting process and the idea that coffee should feel approachable for everyone, no jargon, just good coffee however you like to drink it.

Concept Two - Everyone Loves Saturdays
Saturday is always their busiest day of the week, full of good vibes, plenty of dogs, lots of coffee served and loads of cake eaten. The team wanted to capture the beautiful chaos of a Saturday using illustration. To celebrate their wonderful customers and staff who truly make the the shops come to life.
I drew from the teams personal stories about customers, the products they sell in-store and the vibe of the shop on a busy day to create a large illustration with lots of smaller stories playing out within the larger image so the more you look the more you see.
